I need to organize and clean up a rather complicated folder structure and get rid of it with a few folder rename packages from the command line.

  • I really want to rename “UNIT” in these folders. Instead, I’m having problems when I rename a folder that doesn’t contain subfolders, but otherwise I get one “Permission Denied” error every time I try to rename a folder that contains subfolders.

At first I thought that the report on the “LOCATION” folders was preventing the system from renaming them, so I also tried to clear some of them (including hidden system files and therefore): The rename command currently fails with the error “Permission denied < /p>

And an almost weird fact: if I move and copy these folders to another website (eg C:usersspacexiondesktopNAMES_10RESTUNITCHICAGO), I will rename RESTUNIT from command to UNIT_2 without any problem!

I suspected a problem with inherited permissions, but compared them in many folders and NT permissions are fine. So if that turns out to be a problem, I guess I won’t be able to rename the “UNIT” level folder either.

Also, I can also rename these “locked” folders outside of Windows Explorer, so I don’t understand what’s going on…

    E:MAINNAMES_10UNIT_1LOCATION
    E:MAINNAMES_10WORKUNITnE:MAINNAMES_24RESTUnitCHICAGO

How do I rename a file that says access denied?

Step 1: Right-click on the file or folder you want to capture and select Properties > Security tab.Step 2: Click the “More” button, then click “Edit Website” next to the “Owner” label.

    Rename E:MAINNAMES_10WORKUNIT UNIT_1 >>>> OKE:MAINNAMES_24RESTUNIT UNIT_2 >>>> ACCESS DENIED

I can rename the MozillaFirefox profile in my admin account with password and admin permission,

but not the user account, which anyone can only use with a password.

I’m using Windows 7 and the best UAC is still disabled.

All of the following was done with CMD.EXE running under Windows RUN with A privilegesDMIN

This is definitely a higher level than my own admin rights.

All instances of CMD.EXE have been stopped, except for the useful one in “C:UsersAlan>”

As you can see, “ATTRIB” and “CACLS” cannot distinguish between the ACLs of the two folders.

Mostly I expected more detailed diagnostics than CACLS, but did not expect practical action.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the achievement was possible, instead of being told why I was stuck.

This is the original script that worked with my “Alan” profile and did not work with the “user” profile.I believe ICACLS could be a suitable “FIX”, but I don’t know how it could be or when it could hurt me.

Note: I’ve already used your script above and had various misunderstandings after “CALL:D_LINK arg1 arg2 arg3”

It should duplicate the selected folder and its contents on an independent partition with reduced backup frequency,

and replace the original with the connection after renaming the main one, if the connection actually works.

I would like to solve this problem because my improved script can be done with a minimum ofAdapt at great cost to future needs.

Is there a better command than “RENAME” for this kind of problem?

I would like to know what caused this “Access is actually denied” error message.

    C:UsersAlan>RENAME "C:UsersAlanAppDataRoamingMozilla" Mozilla_L
