Over the past few days, some of our readers have encountered an error while trying to troubleshoot Telnet Exchange Server. This problem occurs for many reasons. Let’s look at them now.

    For this article, I’m using example.com because the domain name of the servers is made up of postal addresses and email addresses. Also, I use the default ports 25 for SMTP and 110 for POP3.

    How do you test an exchange relay?

    Open a command prompt (Start > Run > type “cmd”).In the Exchange Server Descriptor: Type the prompt “telnet ip_address_of_FaxMaker_Server 25” (replace italics with your actual IP address), press Enter. Type “Helo” and press Enter.

    The most important thing you need to do is install telnet, if it doesn’t already exist. (Telnet is not immediately installed on all systems that prefer the more secure SSH protocol.) To install Telnet On a system running Red Hat Enterprise Linux, type:

    $ telnet delicious

    How do I test my Telnet Exchange server?

    Step 1: Install the Telnet client on your computer.Step three: Find the FQDN or IP address of the target SMTP server.Step 3: Use telnet on port 25lb to test the SMTP connection.Step two: success and error messages in our telnet session.

    Now that telnet is installed, we can proceed. First, let’s check if your SMTP server is reachable by connecting to it with the following command. Via telnet:

    $ telnet mail.example.com 25

    After connecting, you will get something like this impulse:

    Initiate a connection to the SMTP service with the following command:

    elo smtp.example.com

    From today, you are ready to send an email. Start by telling the system what address the email is coming from:

    Email sender: [email protected]

    The system then assumes that the information has the correct current syntax and the same configuration as in the previous image.

    Then tell the system the recipient URLs or email addresses with the following command:

    rpt: [email protected]

    The system confirms that the information may have valid syntax:

    Tell the system that you can start the body of the email message by entering data like this:


    The system responds with a specific single dot (.) on its single line, ending the send headers:

    Now set the subject and write the exact content of the email. Then tell the device to send an email using the dot (.) as a test.Next comes the test:

    Circle will then announce that the letter has been accepted for delivery:

    Quit the session by typing quit and disconnect us like this:

    Now check the configuration of your POP3 service provided by Dovecot. The first step is to connect to a POP3 server, sometimes served on port 110:

    $ telnet mail.example.com 110

    After logging in, you will receive something like this:

    Next, enter the information for the carrier account you are accessing. If so, check if user1 received the message you just sent:

    Then use the most important command below to authenticate with the user’s password:

    If the user and password are correct, authentication is always confirmed as follows:

    To check and see what emails are available, use the list:

    command list

    This command returns a file containing all of this person’s emails and the size of those emails, as shown below (it doesn’t return any other information).

    To read wellneck of the email, we need to use the retr command, which is short for “Retrieve”:

    In this case, you have asked them to allow email number one to be received, although you can see that it is a message that you sent directly via SMTP via telnet:

    Since this was a test email, delete this type of email from the system using the dele command as follows:

    Delete 1

    How do I telnet to an Exchange server?

    Open a command prompt.Enter the following command in full: telnet 25.Type: EHLO Type: mail direct from: and press Enter.Type: rcpt to be able to do: and press Enter.Type: Enter data and press Enter.

    Here you can see that the system is responding that the message was marked as deleted:

    Run the list command again. You can clearly see that the email is no more:

    As with SMTP systems, we can type quit to get you out:

  • Much of this can be seen using telnet for basic testing of the information server. Whether you’re using POP or SMTP, experiment with this task once you’re good. You can really see when something is wrong.


    The telnet scan is used to diagnose yourSMTP server. Can it guarantee that the exchange server handles emails correctly and is indeed an accurate manual method for entering instructions that SMTP servers follow during a chat.

    This involves setting up a telnet procedure from a computer that is not on the local network to the external (public) IP address of the Exchange server. You must return to test the machines at home or from another office. Running the test from a specific computer on your network may produce unwanted results.

    1. Run from the command line.
      Click Start, Run, and type CMD
      or select Command Prompt from Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
    2. Type (without quotes “telnet”) and press Enter.
    3. At the telnet prompt, type

      set local echo
      (without the quotes) and specify the media channels. This way you can see exactly what is going on.

    4. Remaining at this particular telnet prompt, type the following command and then also press Enter

      open 111.222.333.444 25 where 111.222.333.444 is the surface IP address of your Exchange server < span>.
